A Brief History of Snow Globes

In 1889 a snow globe containing a model of the Eiffel Tower was made to commemorate an important date in French history. It became a very popular souvenier.
During the Victorian Era snow globes became very popular in England. They made their way to the United States in the 1920’s and soon became a popular collectible. The first patent for a snow globe in the United States was issued in 1927.
In the 1940’s snow globes started being used as advertising items, and in the 1940’s and 1950’s religious snow globes were often purchased as gifts for Catholic children.
In the 1950’s manufacturers started using plastics to product snow globes.
Today, there are many types of themes and materials used to make snow globes.
